In school, we were taught that wants are the things we can do without, things that you desire to have to add comforts in your life examples are the latest car, new house, designer wears, the latest phone, etc.
while needs are those things we cannot do without. They are things that we must have to survive. E.g Shelter, food, clothes, water, etc
We were also taught that when making a list of the things we want to buy, our needs should be at the top of our list. They should be prioritized over our wants.
In the same vein, when setting your priorities, you have to first consider those things that are most important to you.
Make a list of the things that you want to do. It could be done daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. Make sure that the very important ones are at the top of your list.
When setting your priorities, they are certain things to consider; your job, family, spouse, children, relationship, health, etc.
Before you do certain things, you need to consider your husband, wife, children, parents, health or job.
Before you take certain jobs, you need to consider your spouse or children for those who are married. Or your aged parents for those who are still single.
For instance, a nursing mother can’t take a job infirm where she has to leave the house very early and return very late. Her number one priority should be her child.
Someone who needs a car and a house and eventually gets money for one cannot buy a car instead of getting an apartment.
So you need to know how to set your priorities right. If you are spending more time on social media than with your family or you are spending more time with your friends than you do with your spouse, and it’s beginning to affect your relationship with your family, then it’s time to ask yourself which is more important to you, your family or your friends or social media.
Finally, don’t be afraid to set your priorities right, in the long run, you will be glad you did.
