I thought that after the end SARS saga, policemen would have learned their lessons. But I was wrong when I received the news of the death of Mr. Gospel Gbaraka. The father of the deceased has refused to be consoled saying that he will commit suicide.
The distraught father of Gospel Gbaraka, security personnel, who became allegedly killed by a police officer in Rivers State, has threatened to devote suicide if he would not get justice. Recall that the 28-year-antique Accounting graduate of Imo State University was allegedly shot by a Marine Police officer connected to a corporation at Abonnema wharf in Port Harcourt on Sunday, November 22.
Although it is uncertain what transpired between the two, it became amassed that Inspector James allegedly shot the guy in the head. The corpse has been deposited in the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital mortuary.
The deceased father, Innocent Gbaraka, a 62- year- antique retiree from Gwara network in Khana Local Government Area, stated he did not have any reason to continue living after the death of his son.
I was in Church when I received information that my son who left the house for work is dead. I did not believe the story until the person who told me took me to UPTH where I saw my son in his uniform laying dead in a pool of his blood, he stated. “When I asked the manager of the corporation wherein my son labored what happened, he informed me that a policeman connected to the corporation shot my son dead, the manager stated the policeman is inspector James.
Mr. Gbaraka stated that when he learned that the police officer was detained at Mile One police station over the incident, his circle of relatives approached the station to ask what caused his son’s death. So when the investigating police officer (IPO), who identified himself as Innocent, informed us inspector James that killed my son was detained at Mile One police station we went there to ask what happened. But rather than explaining the scenario to us, we were beaten and thrown out of the station.
The policemen threw my spouse and daughter out of the station. They stated that we should visit the marine police station. He stated that his late son is the breadwinner and his only hope.
I do not know what my late son did to the policeman that killed him. All I need now is for justice to prevail. I do not have all and sundry this is why I have not stopped crying over the incident. My son is my only hope he was a graduate of the Imo State Polytechnic, I am finished. my son has constantly cared for me and his mother, the grieving father lamented. Nevertheless, the spokesman of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, who showed the incident stated that a suitable action was being taken. I spoke with the divisional police officer (DPO) who showed it to me. So we are looking ahead to the details stated Omoni.
